Stop 3 and 4 – wake Hartwell

July 16 and 17 - Big Oaks Park on Lake Hartwell, Hartwell, GA

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. each day, competition begins at 9:00 a.m.

Directions: from I-85: Take Exit 177 (Hwy 77) and go south for 10.5 miles until Hwy 77 merges with Hwy 51, make a left at that stop sign.  Follow Hwy 51 into and through downtown Hartwell.  Hwy 51 turns into Howell Street .  Howell makes a left and then quick right at the McDonald’s (you need to be in the right lane for this).  Howell Street then becomes Hwy 29/Anderson Hwy.  Stay on Hwy 29 for 6 miles.  Big Oaks Recreation Area will be on your left.  For GPS users the address is 5625 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA.

Accommodations: In the town of Hartwell there are three motels, Day-Nite Inn (an older local hotel that seems to be clean and accommodating), Best Western and a Jameson Inn.  You will also find a number of B&Bs as well as lake houses for rent.  There are a number of camp sites located around the lake, as a reminder Big Oaks is at the dam on the Georgia side of the lake – the drive to the South Carolina side is very short and you can find more camping there if needed.  The town of Lavonia has some hotels located next to interstate 85 (exit 173) which is about a 25 minute drive.  There are also numerous hotels and restaurants in Anderson, SC which is about a 30 minute drive.
